In a disappointing announcement, Fox has revealed that they are canceling the popular animated series "The Great North" after five successful seasons. The news was first shared by Aimee Steinberger, who directed multiple episodes of the show, on Bluesky.
"Sadly we got the news today that The Great North is officially cancelled," Steinberger wrote. "I'm pretty sad about it. It's one of a very small number of shows I've worked on that I genuinely loved and I really loved the whole talented crew I worked with. I feel lucky to have been there."
Fox president Michael Thorn expressed gratitude for the hard work put in by the cast and crew, stating, "We're so grateful for everything Wendy, Lizzie, Loren and the amazing cast and crew put into The Great North. It's difficult to say goodbye, but we're thankful for the five hilarious seasons The Great North brought to the iconic Animation Domination lineup."
In its final season, "The Great North" averaged 532,000 total viewers, a decline of just 8% from the previous year. However, it ranked last among the nine comedies that Fox aired during the 2024-2025 TV season, making it the network's least-watched scripted program.
Despite the cancellation, Steinberger remains hopeful for the future, saying, "In a world of of cynical and mean shows, The Great North was not that. The family loves and supports each other. I want to work on more shows like that. Either blood or found family."
