Fox to Adapt Thriller 'Rifle Season' and 'Darktown'

Fox Entertainment Studios has acquired adaptation rights for two highly anticipated literary works. The studio is developing series based on Pat Kelly's debut thriller, "Rifle Season," and Thomas Mullen's historical crime novel, "Darktown." These projects will be developed in collaboration with Jeffrey Levine and his production company, Bronson Canyon Pictures.
"Rifle Season," slated for publication in January 2026, centers on Mason "Mace" Winters, a legendary big-game hunting guide whose life unravels after a conviction. He is lured back into the Colorado mountains for a dangerous hunt, thrusting him into a deadly game of survival.
"Darktown," published in 2016, is set in Atlanta in 1948. The story follows two of the city's first Black police officers as they investigate the murder of a young Black woman, uncovering deep-seated corruption and racism. Levine will executive produce both adaptations.
