Apple TV+'s "Foundation" has introduced its central antagonist, the mentalic Mule, in Season 3. This powerful telepath, played by Pilou Asbæk, is depicted as a force of chaos who manipulates minds and spreads disorder. The character's arrival was teased at the end of Season 2, with his full impact realized in the premiere of the subsequent season.
The portrayal of the Mule in the series marks a significant departure from the character created by Isaac Asimov in his novels. In the original books, the intimidating figure known as the Mule was actually a disguise. The true identity of the Mule was Magnifico Giganticus, a lanky and eccentric court jester.
While Magnifico Giganticus is present in the "Foundation" series, portrayed by Tómas Lemarquis, he serves as an individual character and a subordinate to the Mule. Showrunner David S. Goyer made the creative decision to split the dual persona of the original villain, presenting two distinct characters instead of one disguised as the other.
