Summary
- Taylor Momsen, who played Jenny Humphrey, left 'Gossip Girl' in 2010
- Momsen wanted to pursue music with her band The Pretty Reckless
- Faced a "long battle" to get out of her contract with CW and Warner Bros.

In a surprising move, former 'Gossip Girl' actress Taylor Momsen made a rare red carpet appearance at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. Momsen, who played the role of Jenny Humphrey on the hit CW series, left the show in the middle of its fourth season back in 2010.
Now, Momsen is finally shedding light on the reasons behind her abrupt departure. "It started with a, 'I don't wanna do this anymore,' but you are in a lock and key contract with CW Warner Brothers, you know, all of that stuff," she shared on the November 5th episode of the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast. Momsen had realized that her true passion lay in music, and she wanted to pursue that path with her band, The Pretty Reckless. However, the powers that be were not convinced, leading to a "very long battle" as Momsen fought to get out of her contract.
Interestingly, Momsen admitted that she "never watched the show" herself, so some of the finer details around her exit may have escaped her. Nevertheless, her decision to leave 'Gossip Girl' in 2010 marked a significant turning point in her career, as she shifted her focus to her musical aspirations.
