A FlyDubai flight bound for Tel Aviv, which experienced a hijacking incident last month, is now being developed into a narrative film by Dori Media Group and India's Sphereorigin. The incident, believed to be a terror plot, involved the co-pilot allegedly stabbing the captain and attempting to crash the plane. The flight plummeted over 14,000 feet before the injured captain, Smit Machchhar, managed to open the cockpit door, allowing passengers to subdue the assailant.
Two other pilots, who were passengers on the flight, then took control and successfully landed the plane in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This act of skill and bravery by the crew and passengers has transformed a near-tragedy into a story of triumph. Captain Machchhar is recovering from his injuries and has been recognized as a hero in India and Israel. The accused co-pilot is in custody awaiting prosecution.
Dori Media and Sphereorigin quickly came together to develop this project after expressing interest from Indian streaming platforms and broadcasters. They are currently seeking a writer and director, with hopes for an accelerated release next year. The production companies aim to highlight the courageous actions of Captain Machchhar and the passengers.
