According to a recent fan-voted poll, Florence + The Machine's new album "Everybody Scream" has emerged as the top new music release of the week. The 12-track album, which was unleashed on Halloween, garnered 53% of the votes, outpacing new offerings from artists like Tyler, The Creator and Brent Faiyaz.
The timing of the album's release seems particularly fitting, as Florence Welch, the frontwoman of the band, has revealed that the creative process was deeply influenced by a harrowing personal experience. In a recent interview, Welch shared that she suffered an ectopic pregnancy while performing on stage earlier this year, which caused her fallopian tube to rupture and required emergency surgery. "For this album, I didn't realize how close death was," she said. "It was sort of like, Oh, death is just a doorway."
Welch went on to describe "Everybody Scream" as her "most personal album" yet, but also her "most mythological in a sense." She wanted to create her own "folk horror songs" to navigate the "well of grief" she was experiencing. The album's title track and lead single "One of the Greats" have already been previewed, hinting at the album's darker, more introspective tone compared to Welch's previous work.
As Florence + The Machine prepares to take this new material on tour, Welch expressed her excitement to channel the album's raw emotions through her live performances. "That is my favorite thing about songs is they hold so many different things at once, and that's my favorite thing about performance," she said. "You know, it is endless."
