Racheal Ofori's sharp satire, FLIP!, has been adapted from its acclaimed stage production for BBC Radio 4. The play delves into the challenging question of how individuals can remain authentic in a modern world dominated by algorithms that highlight human disposability.
The narrative centers on influencers Carleen and Crystal, whose commentary and fast-growing online followings have captivated audiences. Despite Carleen's hesitations about their curated cyber personas, she remains devoted to Crystal.
Their journey leads them to FLIP!, a new and highly addictive social media platform that promises to fulfill their aspirations. However, the play prompts a critical examination of the sacrifices and costs associated with such digital immersion.
Originally co-commissioned by Fuel and Soho Theatre, the stage play premiered in Newcastle in October 2023, followed by runs in Edinburgh and London. The radio adaptation brings this timely commentary to a new audience.
