Netflix is set to release 'Trust Me: The False Prophet,' a four-episode docuseries debuting on April 8. The series follows cult expert Christine Marie and her husband, videographer Tolga Katas, as they infiltrate the inner circle of Samuel Bateman. Bateman has emerged as the self-proclaimed heir to Warren Jeffs, the former leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS).
The couple moved into Short Creek, Utah, to support a community vulnerable to a new prophet. However, they soon uncovered evidence of significant wrongdoing. Their investigation into Bateman's activities led to legal consequences for him and his followers. Warren Jeffs is currently serving a life sentence for child sexual assault convictions, while Bateman pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges related to child sexual activity and kidnapping, receiving a 50-year sentence.
This new series is effectively a sequel to the 2022 docuseries 'Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey.' Directed by Rachel Dretzin, 'Trust Me: The False Prophet' aims to expose the alleged 'unignorable evil' within the FLDS community under new leadership, offering a critical look at the ongoing influence of the controversial religious group.
