As of 2025-10-25, the Diwali release Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has managed to be a big hit, but a section of the audience has had reservations with the actions of the male protagonist and how he goes all out to win the girl he loves, even though she is not interested in him.
In an exclusive interview, writer-director Milap Zaveri addresses the criticism. He acknowledges that there would be diverse views, but states that this is the era of films like Animal and Kabir Singh, where audiences have accepted such flawed characters with open hearts. Zaveri explains that even though these protagonists are flawed, their heart is in the right place.
Zaveri also reveals that actor Harshvardhan Rane took inspiration from a quote by Shah Rukh Khan, who once said, "Even when I am bad, I'll make you love me." Rane told Zaveri, "Even though I am bad, I'll try my best to be lovable." The actor also contributed to the script, developing the backstory of his character and insisting on certain dialogues that have resonated with the audience.
The film's 'A' rating also sparked discussion, with Zaveri explaining that it was due to the interval block scene, which he was unable to get changed despite his best efforts. However, he and the producers were okay with the 'A' rating, as Zaveri himself would not allow his 10-year-old son to watch the film because of that particular scene.
