15 Feb
Summary
- Fox canceled Firefly prematurely, cutting potential stories.
- An early opening showed Serenity floating in a junk ring.
- Invaders would board the ship to confront a wounded captain.
Joss Whedon's science-fiction series "Firefly" faced a premature cancellation by Fox, limiting the exploration of numerous narrative possibilities. Actor Nathan Fillion shared a potential opening scene envisioned by Whedon.
Fillion recounted Whedon's pitch for an opening that would showcase the spaceship Serenity. The scene would begin with a view of a planet featuring a ring around it. Upon closer inspection, this ring would be revealed as a massive junkyard of rocks and ship debris.
Serenity would be seen floating lifelessly amidst this junk. Invaders would then board the damaged vessel. Captain Malcolm Reynolds, depicted as injured and strapped down with large guns, would confront them, famously declaring, 'Get off my ship!' This dramatic concept offers a glimpse into the show's unfulfilled potential.
