Finnish Director Defies Censorship for Sisu Sequel's Bloody Action

In November 2025, the Finnish director Jalmari Helander is gearing up for the release of Sisu: Road To Revenge, the sequel to his 2022 action hit Sisu. Helander promises that the new film will feature even more intense action and bloodshed than the first installment, which already garnered considerable praise for its thrilling sequences.

Discussing the production, Helander reveals that the Sisu sequel used "a lot" of fake blood, with camera operators having to wear rain jackets and safety goggles due to the sheer volume of the red liquid flying around the set. Helander believes this trend of heightened on-screen violence has been picking up in recent years, noting that even 10 years ago, a film like Sisu might not have been possible.

However, the director is particularly critical of film censorship, especially the practices of India's Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Helander "hates it so much" and believes that "destroying someone's art" serves no real purpose, as it is up to the audience to decide whether they want to see a film or not. He hopes that Sisu: Road To Revenge will be released in India without any cuts.

While Helander is not very familiar with Indian cinema, he has been hearing that there are similarities between the action sequences in his Sisu films and those found in Indian movies. The director is open to exploring this connection further, but for now, he is focused on delivering an even more thrilling and blood-soaked sequel to his 2022 hit.
