Square Enix has unveiled Final Fantasy Resonance, an HD-2D turn-based RPG slated for release on October 22, 2026. This new installment draws inspiration from the narrative of the defunct mobile game, Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius, while introducing original story elements and an updated combat system.
The game features a fresh turn-based combat system, distinct from the ATB mechanics of older titles. It incorporates familiar Final Fantasy staples like chocobos and airships, alongside a new overworld. The soundtrack blends music from Brave Exvius with 33 newly composed tracks.
A central gameplay mechanic involves equippable Visions, which function similarly to a Job system, granting party members unique abilities. These Visions can be leveled up independently. While some Visions are exclusive to Resonance, the primary draw is the inclusion of guest characters from across the Final Fantasy series.
Resonance follows the story of Rain, a knight from the kingdom of Grandshelt. Players will journey across continents, battle through dungeons to unlock summons for Fina, and discover Visions at various shrines. The narrative also features companions like Lasswell and Lid, alongside the summoner Fina.
