Filmmaker Turns City Spaces into Cinematic Experiences

Asees Prab, a Chandigarh-born architect, academic, and filmmaker currently pursuing a PhD in Architecture and Urban Design in Australia, is exploring urban environments through the lens of resident experiences. She utilizes filmmaking as a methodology to examine the influence of architecture on daily life and to bring these discussions beyond academic circles. Prab's films, such as 'Act! Citizen' and 'otherness,' delve into Chandigarh's public spaces and urban identity by prioritizing memory, dialogue, and lived experiences over conventional documentation.

'Act! Citizen' prompts residents to reconsider their connection with Chandigarh's public areas, including the Capitol Complex. Meanwhile, 'otherness' scrutinizes Le Corbusier's modularity concept and its contemporary relevance in the city's planning. Prab, a third-generation Chandigarh resident, aspires to foster more accessible conversations about architecture by linking academic research with the broader public. Her work also extends to providing Building Information Modelling services for data centers, alongside teaching and writing on urban culture.
