Summary
- Producer files a petition against industry unions.
- He argues no organization can impose bans or directives.
- The first court hearing is scheduled for June 2nd.

A significant legal challenge has been mounted against the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) and the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPPA). Senior producer TP Aggarwal filed a petition at the Bombay Civil Court, asserting that neither organization possesses the authority to impose bans or issue non-cooperation directives against film industry members.
Aggarwal's petition argues against the unilateral power of unions to restrict individuals' work, stating such actions should not be taken lightly due to potential impacts on livelihoods and creative freedom. The case was scheduled for its first hearing on June 2nd, following FWICE's recent non-cooperation directive against an actor.
This directive was reportedly issued amid a dispute between the actor and Excel Entertainment over a film project. FWICE had also previously communicated with IMPPA and the Producers Guild of India to establish a framework for safeguarding producers. Aggarwal, a former president of IMPPA and FFI, emphasized the need for proper legal channels to resolve such matters.
