Film Movement has secured the U.S. distribution rights for Radu Jude's latest film, "The Diary of a Chambermaid." This marks the Romanian director's inaugural venture into French-language cinema, following its debut in the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival.
The acquisition was finalized by Film Movement president Michael Rosenberg and SBS International's Kevin Chneiweiss. Produced by Saïd Ben Saïd, the film is slated for its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival before its official U.S. premiere at the New York Film Festival.
"The Diary of a Chambermaid" is an adaptation of Octave Mirbeau's classic novel. The narrative centers on Gianina, a young Romanian woman working for a wealthy couple in Bordeaux. While tending to their home and son, she anticipates her return to Romania for Christmas to see her own daughter, simultaneously rehearsing for a stage adaptation of Mirbeau's work.
Film Movement intends to release the film theatrically in the U.S., followed by VOD, digital, and home entertainment platforms. This acquisition adds to Film Movement's recent notable acquisitions, including other critically acclaimed films.
