New Filmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA) is honoring Pride Month by screening the film Mistake. This drama, which has garnered awards including Best Inspirational Feature at the Sedona International Film Festival, delves into the complex life of Larry Benson, an intersex person.
The film, set between 1941 and 1971 in the American South, depicts Larry's profound journey towards self-discovery. It navigates themes of identity, alienation, love, and the societal pressures that attempt to confine human lives. Director and star Honey Lauren has stated the film incorporates personal narrative elements.
Mistake previously served as the opening night film at the Tulipani di Seta Nera International Social Cinematography Festival in Rome. It has also received accolades such as the Festival Grand Prize and a Special Jury Award for Outstanding Cinematography at the Arizona International Film Festival, among others.
Shot in Los Angeles, Kentucky, and Tennessee, the film's production team includes Brad Wyman and Glen Reynolds of Circus Road Films as the sales representative. NFMLA's InFocus: LGBTQ+ Cinema program is presented in partnership with Outfest during Pride Month.
