The American Cinematheque's third annual This Is Not a Fiction festival is set to captivate audiences from April 16-24 in Los Angeles. This edition highlights a dynamic mix of nonfiction filmmaking, honoring legendary directors like Barbara Kopple and Gianfranco Rosi. Rosi's Oscar-nominated "Fire at Sea" and "Pompei: Below the Clouds" will be screened, while Kopple will be celebrated with a 50th-anniversary screening of "Harlan County, USA."
The festival also pays tribute to pioneering filmmakers such as Frederick Wiseman and Iranian American director Caveh Zahedi. Adding a unique twist, This Is Not a Fiction embraces mockumentaries, marking anniversaries for "Popstar: Never Stop Stopping" and "Jackass Number Two." A special screening of "Best in Show" will be followed by a conversation with Eugene Levy.
