A new six-part drama, titled "Genesis," is set to explore the remarkable journey of chef Ferran Adrià and his groundbreaking restaurant, El Bulli. The series will debut its first two episodes at the San Sebastián Film Festival on September 21, coinciding with its release on Catalan broadcaster TV3 and the streaming platform 3Cat.
New Regency has acquired international distribution rights outside of Spain and will present "Genesis" to global buyers at Mipcom in October. Netflix will also stream the series in Spain, Europe, Latin America, and the U.S., with New Regency managing distribution rights in territories not covered by Netflix's deal.
"Genesis" traces how Adrià, alongside Juli Soler and Albert Adrià, transformed El Bulli from a modest restaurant into a globally influential haute cuisine institution in the 1980s. The drama interweaves two timelines: one focusing on a young Adrià's early days at El Bulli and another following a food critic's attempt to reopen her family's restaurant.
Produced by 3Cat with Minoria Absoluta and Fishcorb Media, the series features Miquel Fernández as Ferran Adrià. The production involved Adrià and the El Bulli Foundation, with former El Bulli kitchen staff recreating over 70 original dishes for the show.
