Renowned sculptor Brian Fell, a native of Sefton, returns to Southport for a joint exhibition with his son, George. Titled 'Always Something New,' the show opened today, June 13, 2026, at The Atkinson and will run until October 17, 2026. Fell senior, who developed his passion for metalwork at Manchester School of Art, has a significant history with Southport, having completed his first public art commission there. This included designing seafront railings and creating landmark sculptures depicting local symbols like seagulls and shrimps.
The exhibition features key commissions from the past forty years, with a particular emphasis on the father-son collaborations that have spanned 15 years. George Fell was inspired by his father's artistic endeavors from a young age, eventually joining him on projects. While their works possess a shared artistic lineage, George notes that their individual styles are distinguishable. The exhibition's title was inspired by a visitor to their workshop at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, who humorously adapted a Cat Stevens song to praise their constant creation of new works.
