28 Jan
Summary
- Producers prepare rats for consumption by washing and blow-drying them.
- Fear Factor's reboot aims for bigger, more disgusting challenges than ever.
- Contestants face dishes like fisheye pie and fermented herring for $200,000.

The kitchen responsible for Fear Factor: House of Fear's most stomach-churning challenges has been revealed. Co-executive producer Hannah Ganio, the show's 'queen of gore,' invites viewers behind the scenes of the 'Fear Kitchen.'
Ganio explained the meticulous, albeit unpleasant, process of preparing ingredients. For instance, rats featured in challenges undergo a thorough washing and blow-drying to ensure they are camera-ready and safe for consumption, a process designed to prevent any fecal matter from reaching contestants' mouths.
This season's reboot, Fear Factor: House of Fear, promises challenges that are bigger and more disgusting than previous iterations. Contestants are faced with dishes such as fisheye pie, fermented herring, and rotten egg pie, with the 'ick factor' rated a solid 10 by Ganio.
Launched by Fox in the new year (2026), the show features fourteen contestants from across the United States vying for a $200,000 grand prize. Beyond the notorious food challenges, participants will confront other fears, including snakes and heights. The format has been updated, with all competitors living together, adding interpersonal drama to the mix.
Fear Factor: House of Fear airs on Fox Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET and is available to stream the following day on Hulu. The original show premiered on NBC in June 2021, hosted by Joe Rogan.
