Corpus Christi to Honor Farrah Fawcett with Bronze Statue

Corpus Christi is set to honor one of its most beloved stars, Farrah Fawcett, with a new bronze statue. The artwork will be situated along the popular downtown seawall, a location chosen to commemorate an iconic scene from Fawcett's "Charlie's Angels" television show.

The statue, described as a 600- to 700-pound piece standing about 7 feet tall, will feature a green patina finish. A group named Friends of Farrah Fawcett will fund the commission, construction, and installation of the statue. They will also be responsible for its ongoing maintenance.

This tribute aims to honor the Ray High School alumna, who passed away in 2009. The Friends of Farrah Fawcett group seeks to celebrate their former classmate and friend by contributing a significant piece of artwork to the city where she grew up. The proposed site is across from the Art Center of Corpus Christi.

The final placement of Fawcett's statue will be confirmed after an engineering study, paid for by the donors. This planned monument follows the installation of a statue honoring Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla Perez, also a Corpus Christi native, which is located at Mirador de la Flor. Fawcett's statue would be positioned approximately 1,500 feet from Selena's.

The City Council is anticipated to review and potentially approve the agreement for the statue during its August 25 meeting. This initiative adds to Corpus Christi's public art landscape, celebrating its famous residents.
