Director Joseph Kosinski's next project, an "F1" film, is set to deliver a high-adrenaline experience by immersing audiences in the world of Formula 1 racing. Kosinski collaborated with cinematographer Claudio Miranda, known for their work on "Top Gun: Maverick," to achieve a realistic portrayal. Their primary goal was to avoid green screens and capture genuine racing action.
To accomplish this, Miranda worked with Sony Electronics to develop custom cameras capable of capturing high-speed shots. These were mounted four per car, offering remote control over pan and focus, pushing technological boundaries for the film. Despite the technological focus, Kosinski emphasized that story and character were the driving forces behind these innovations.
The Apple Original Film features Brad Pitt as retired driver Sonny Hayes, who mentors rookie Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris. The narrative unfolds mid-season as Hayes joins an underdog team, aiming for a podium finish. The film also explores character dynamics, tension between the leads, and visually captures both racetrack intensity and intimate off-grid moments.
