Malayalam Thriller 'Eyes' Tackles Stalking

SonyLIV's Malayalam series, 'Eyes,' offers a unique perspective on combating stalking and crimes of obsession with its intriguing premise. The narrative centers on a specialized five-member team, comprising two police officers, a software developer, and two mental health experts, dedicated to protecting women from such threats. Their work is significantly aided by a sophisticated software system also named 'Eyes,' designed to monitor individuals exhibiting concerning behaviors and to preemptively prevent criminal acts.

The series masterfully weaves together four distinct case studies, providing a comprehensive look at the varied manifestations of obsession. These include a photographer's unhealthy fixation on an actress, a supermarket employee trapped in an abusive relationship, a narcissistic IAS officer's controlling tendencies, and a woman forced into a desperate elopement with an abusive partner. Each storyline is handled with depth and realism.

Manu Ashokan's direction ensures a controlled pace and a palpable thriller atmosphere, adeptly balancing intense emotions and necessary violence without resorting to hyperbole. The screenplay's non-linear structure keeps viewers engaged, with each episode focusing on a primary case while seamlessly integrating subplots that gain prominence later. This approach creates a slow burn that builds steadily with unexpected twists and turns.

Performances across the board are commendable, particularly Kani Kusruti as a resolute police officer and the mental health professionals who bring credibility to their roles. Jaffer Idukki delivers a standout performance, embodying a range of chilling characteristics. The supporting cast, including Dev Mohan as a manipulative officer, also makes a significant impact, contributing to the series' overall effectiveness and its nail-biting final act where all plotlines converge in a high-stakes thriller climax.
