Teen Girls Fall for Teacher in Shakespearean Twist

Minna and Flic, inseparable best friends at an English girls' boarding school, face typical teenage challenges with synchronized devotion. Their bond is tested when they embark on a special school project: auditioning for a production of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream.' As part of their unique approach to the project, they resolve to fall in love with the first person they encounter.

Unexpectedly, their chosen object of affection is their own geography teacher. This decision, mirroring elements of the Bard's play, sets the stage for a narrative exploring the intensity and formative power of early female friendships. Director Molly Manners describes the film as a "very British high school movie about girlhood."

The film, set in the analog early 2000s, captures a sense of nostalgia and focuses on the emotional intensity of adolescent relationships. The creative team aimed to portray the platonic yet deeply intimate love shared between teenage girls, highlighting how these friendships can be life-defining.

Starring Galaxie Clear and Marni Duggan in their debut performances, the film premiered in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival on January 23. Alice Englert plays the geography teacher, the object of the girls' unconventional affections.
