On October 12, 2025, fans of the "Avatar: The Last Airbender" franchise were thrilled to learn about the upcoming expansion of the beloved universe. During a panel at New York Comic Con, the original cast members and co-creator Bryan Konietzko announced several new projects in the works.
First and foremost, a one-on-one fighting video game titled "Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game" is set to release on consoles in the summer of 2026. The game will feature hand-drawn 2D characters, including fan favorites like Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, Azula, Toph, and Korra. Players will be able to witness Aang's impressive airbending skills, Zuko's firebending and swordplay, and Korra's mastery of all four elements.
In addition to the fighting game, a chibi-style, 2D animated series of short videos has also debuted on YouTube. These adorable shorts will reimagine classic scenes from the original "Avatar" series, the comics, and offer original stories. One of the videos already released parodies the premiere episode, showcasing Katara and Sokka's discovery of Aang and their battle against Zuko and the Fire Nation.
Looking ahead, the "Avatar" universe is set to expand even further. A sequel series titled "Avatar: Seven Havens" that follows the Avatar after Korra is in the works. Furthermore, a feature film called "The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender" is scheduled for theatrical release on October 9, 2026.
