Ex-AMC CEO Champions Neurodivergent Talent

Josh Sapan, formerly the CEO of AMC Networks, has pivoted his career towards advocacy for on-screen disability representation. Since departing AMC in 2021, Sapan has dedicated significant time to founding the Marvels of Media Festival. This festival, in partnership with institutions like the Museum of the Moving Image and the Academy Museum, specifically highlights and supports autistic media makers. It offers sensory-friendly experiences, showcases short films, and hosts discussions with neurodivergent filmmakers.

Sapan's personal connection, as his son Nate is on the spectrum, fuels his passion for this work. The festival not only celebrates talent but also provides essential workshops and platforms to help these filmmakers secure funding for future projects. Marvels of Media has expanded its reach by partnering with approximately ten theaters nationwide to screen selected content.

Beyond advocacy, Sapan remains active in the media industry through his company, Sapan Studios. Launched after his departure from AMC, the studio has backed several independent films, including "Ghostlight" and "The Taste of Things." His involvement extends to television development with Warner Bros., allowing him closer proximity to the artistic process.

Sapan has also explored writing, publishing a poetry collection titled "RX" in 2023 and a book profiling individuals who have reinvented themselves after retirement age. He views life as a multi-chapter experience, emphasizing the opportunities that arise from career transitions and the importance of embracing new possibilities.
