Evan Rachel Wood has elaborated on her sentiments regarding her non-participation in the upcoming "Practical Magic 2." The actress, who was a child star in the original 1998 film, will not be returning for the sequel alongside Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock.
Wood initially expressed disappointment about not reprising her role as Kylie Owens. However, she clarified on Instagram Stories that the reason for her absence was rooted in significant narrative alterations. She noted that in Alice Hoffman's book, her character was older and pregnant, with a storyline involving her love for women, which was not reflected in the new film.
The sequel reportedly made changes to the character, removing the pregnancy and queerness, making her younger, and shifting her narrative arc. Due to these deviations from the source material, Wood explained, it did not make sense for her to be part of the project.
She concluded by sending her love to Joey King, who is taking on the role of Kylie Owens, and expressed her excitement for a new audience to discover the "Practical Magic" universe. The sequel, also featuring Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, is slated for release on September 11. Wood is currently promoting her new thriller series, "The Shards."
