Darrell Britt-Gibson's portrayal of Bishop in Euphoria's third season introduces an enigmatic and dangerous presence. Originally auditioning for a different role, Britt-Gibson was invited by creator Sam Levinson to develop the character of Bishop, who was not fully fleshed out at the time.
Britt-Gibson envisioned Bishop as a ninja in a world of cowboys, drawing inspiration from samurai and Javier Bardem's stillness in 'No Country for Old Men.' He aimed to embody a character with a resting heart rate below 65, operating from a space of zero fear. This approach allows Bishop to remain calm and unfazed, even when outnumbered or facing overtly racist antagonists.
Bishop's role in the unfolding narrative includes a pivotal mission to poison a parrot, a task he executes with stealth, despite his personal love for animals. This sequence, along with a violent encounter involving a pig, highlights Bishop's loyalty to his boss, Alamo, and his ability to instill fear in adversaries like Laurie's crew.
The character's dynamic with fellow cast members Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Alamo) and Marshawn Lynch (G) is described as "iron sharpens iron," with each actor bringing their best work. Britt-Gibson felt embraced by the cast, likening the experience to working with family, which contributed to the lived-in feel of their interactions.
