In a surprising reveal, actor Ethan Slater is lifting the veil on his villainous role as Thomas Godolkin in the second season of the Gen V spinoff series. Slater, who is best known for his work in Wicked and The SpongeBob Musical, has been playing a much darker character than his previous roles.
The penultimate episode of Gen V's second season unveiled a shocking twist – Hamish Linklater's Dean Cipher is not who he seems. In reality, Godolkin, the founder of Godolkin University, has been psychically commandeering Cipher's body to move about the world and carry out his nefarious plans. Slater only recently learned about this twist, as the showrunner Michelle Fazekas kept the details under wraps until the later episodes.
Slater has been tasked with bringing Godolkin to life, describing the character as "so incredible and dark and twisted and weird." He worked to align his performance with Linklater's portrayal of Cipher, incorporating the character's speaking patterns and rhythms to create a seamless transition between the two personas. Slater was particularly drawn to Godolkin's thought process, which is always one step ahead of everyone else.
