The anticipated live-action "Eragon" series for Disney+ has advanced with the appointment of Todd Harthan and Todd Helbing as co-showrunners. Harthan, also a co-creator with "Eragon" author Christopher Paolini, will executive produce alongside Helbing, Paolini, Marc Webb, and Rachel Moore. 20th Television is developing the show based on Paolini's "The Inheritance Cycle" book series, which has sold over 40 million copies globally. This project aims to provide a new adaptation after the critically panned 2006 film.
The series' logline describes an ordinary teenager chosen to become the first Dragon Rider in a century, tasked with mastering magic and challenging a tyrannical king. Harthan brings experience as showrunner for "High Potential" and creator of "Rosewood," while Helbing is known for his work on "Superman & Lois" and "The Flash." Marc Webb, director of "(500) Days of Summer" and "The Amazing Spider-Man" films, also joins as an executive producer. Fans have actively advocated for a remake since 2021, following the underperformance of the initial movie adaptation.
