EPiC Elvis: Rare Footage Hits Streaming

EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, directed by Baz Luhrmann, has arrived on Paramount+ for streaming after a successful theatrical run. The documentary showcases previously unseen 16 mm footage, much of which was discovered in salt mines in Kansas and from the Graceland archives. This excavation yielded hours of film from Elvis Presley's "That's the Way It Is" and "Elvis on Tour" concerts.

The film concluded its domestic theatrical run on April 9, grossing $13.5 million, with an additional nearly $9.9 million from international markets, totaling $23.4 million worldwide. With a production budget estimated between $10 million and $11 million, EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert also achieved critical acclaim, earning a 97% "fresh" score from Rotten Tomatoes critics and a 98% "fresh" score from audiences.

Director Baz Luhrmann collaborated with Park Road Post Production to restore and enhance the unearthed footage, aiming to present Elvis Presley in his prime. A significant discovery for the project was a 45-minute audio recording of Elvis discussing his life and music, which provided inspiration and a narrative voice for the documentary. The film officially began streaming on Paramount+ on Wednesday, June 3.
