Emraan Hashmi Regrets Aishwarya Rai 'Plastic' Comment

Emraan Hashmi has publicly apologized for a controversial remark he made about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in 2014 on "Koffee with Karan." During a rapid-fire segment, Hashmi associated the word "plastic" with Rai, a comment that led to significant backlash. Years later, in a 2025 interview, Hashmi stated he regretted the remark, describing it as distasteful and noting that public sensitivity has increased significantly.

Hashmi explained that the rapid-fire round was a game and intended to be taken sportingly, suggesting that such candid answers are no longer possible due to changing social media environments. He admitted that his primary motivation at the time was to win a hamper. He also shared a personal anecdote, recalling waiting for three hours to see Rai after her film "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam," emphasizing his admiration for her.

He further expressed a desire to meet Rai in person to offer a direct apology should she have been offended by his past comments. Hashmi also mentioned facing repercussions for his candid remarks for an extended period. In a separate interview in 2024, he recalled how the "Koffee with Karan" producers were surprised by his bluntness. Interestingly, Rai herself, in a 2019 interview, had identified being called "fake and plastic" as the harshest comment she had received.
