- Paulson's Wuornos role to explore pop culture's treatment of female killers

In a major casting move, Emmy-winning actress Sarah Paulson is reportedly close to securing the role of notorious serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the fourth season of Netflix's true crime anthology series "Monster." The new season will also star Ella Beatty as accused ax murderer Lizzie Borden, with Paulson's portrayal of Wuornos expected to explore how pop culture has historically portrayed female killers.
Paulson's casting reunites her with "Monster" executive producer Ryan Murphy, with whom she has collaborated on several acclaimed TV projects, including "American Horror Story" and "American Crime Story," the latter of which earned Paulson an Emmy in 2016 for her performance as O.J. Simpson prosecutor Marcia Clark.
Wuornos was convicted of killing six men and was executed in 2002. Her story previously inspired the 2003 film "Monster," which earned Charlize Theron an Oscar for her portrayal of the serial killer.
The upcoming season of "Monster" promises to offer a thought-provoking examination of how female killers are perceived and represented in popular culture, with Paulson's casting as Wuornos set to be a central part of that exploration.
