Summary
- YouTube will stream the News and Documentary Emmys live.
- New rules require disclosure of AI use in Emmy submissions.
- Media freedom and First Amendment challenges will be addressed.

YouTube will broadcast the upcoming Sports, News, and Documentary Emmy Awards live, in partnership with the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). The events are scheduled for May 26th, 27th, and 28th, beginning at 7 p.m. ET each evening. This collaboration signifies YouTube's commitment to supporting journalism creators on its platform.
NATAS has implemented new rules requiring disclosure of artificial intelligence in content submissions. While AI itself cannot win an Emmy for human tasks, its use in production must be declared. Judges will consider AI's role in evaluating entries, with potential recognition for technical AI achievements.
The ceremonies are also expected to address critical issues concerning media freedom and the First Amendment. NATAS acknowledges the current challenging landscape for the industry, noting that the tension between the press and government is a historical and ongoing aspect of American liberty.
Presenters and hosts for the News and Documentary Emmys include prominent journalists and filmmakers. The Sports Emmy Awards will also feature notable figures from the sports broadcasting world. Both ceremonies will take place at Jazz at Lincoln Center.
