On November 13, 2025, ITV announced a change to its usual Emmerdale schedule, with the popular soap not airing on Thursday evening. Instead, the network broadcast the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier between England and Serbia.
However, the previous day's episode of Emmerdale was packed with dramatic revelations. Viewers were taken on a journey through flashbacks, delving into Robert Sugden's (Ryan Hawley) six-year stint in prison, where he was serving a 14-year sentence for the murder of Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie). The flashbacks shed light on Robert's time behind bars and his backstory with his husband, Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill).
In a parallel storyline, Kev shared a secret with Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson), revealing that he has a son from a fleeting encounter with a woman named Emma, who was tragically murdered years ago. This added another layer of deceit to Kev and Robert's relationship, as Robert was unaware of his husband's paternity.
The episode also featured a poignant visit from the late Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter), who urged Robert to mend his relationship with her grandson, Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller). Faith, who was terminally ill, encouraged Robert to seek release after new evidence suggested that Lee's death could have been the result of a brain injury inflicted by his brother.
As the episode drew to a close, Kev discovered that Robert had deceived him about his sister Victoria's (Isabel Hodgins) brain tumour while applying for parole, which he had been granted earlier that year. The stage is set for a confrontation between the two as the story continues to unfold.
