Emei Signs with Atlantic Records & Nice Life

Singer Emei has signed with Atlantic Records, joining forces with Nice Life Records, the label known for artists like Lizzo and The Marias. The announcement came on Thursday, with Emei set to release the title track from her forthcoming EP, 'Night at the Opera,' this evening. The full EP is scheduled for release on June 12.

Emei, who grew up in New Jersey and has strong ties to China, first gained national attention at 15 by placing third on 'Chinese Idol.' She later appeared on China's 'Dancing With the Stars.' Her music career surged in 2022 after gaining a significant following on TikTok with her song 'Late to the Party.' Following the success of her independently released EP 'End of an Era,' and after graduating from Yale University, Emei connected with Nice Life CEO Ricky Reed. Reed, along with Justin Tranter, has been instrumental in shaping Emei's recent musical direction.

Expressing her initial skepticism about signing, Emei highlighted the thoroughness and dedication of the Nice Life team. She noted their significant contributions to both her business and musical endeavors, finding the experience with Reed and others to be a valuable learning process. Emei feels she has grown considerably as an artist and businesswoman in a short time and believes Nice Life and Atlantic align with her vision of a passionate and hardworking team.

Ricky Reed shared his excitement, recalling Emei's ambition and desire for high-level execution from their first meeting. He emphasized her artistic vulnerability, DIY ethos, and deep connection with her fanbase as reasons for welcoming her to the Nice Life and Atlantic Records family. Emei described the song 'Night at the Opera,' co-written with Reed, as a grand, string-infused track inspired by a visit to the Met Opera, aiming to capture a theatrical and powerful live performance feel, connecting with her roots as a theater kid.
