Claire Starring, an avid Elvis Presley fan, recently acquired a Memphis home inspired by Graceland for $150,000. The property, known as 'Lil' Graceland,' boasts three bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms, featuring a vibrant green shag carpet and extensive Elvis memorabilia.
Starring, who was visiting the actual Graceland when she decided to purchase the house, intends to maintain its retro aesthetic. Previous owners Dale Watson and Celine Lee had transformed the house into a 1950s-themed haven. The exterior has been repainted turquoise, but the interior's wood panelling, vintage furniture, and themed rooms remain largely untouched.
The 'Lil' Graceland' property operates as a versatile venue, available for short-term rentals on Airbnb, as a film and photo set, and as a recording studio. Notably, the basement houses original equipment from the historic Sun Studio, a feature previously utilized by Watson and bands like The Black Keys.
Looking ahead, Starring plans to renovate two backyard caravans for guest accommodation, aiming to generate additional income and offer visitors an immersive Elvis experience. She also envisions hosting weddings at the unique location. Despite living in Georgia, Starring manages the property with a local Memphis team and maintains contact with the former owners, ensuring its continued operation and her family's enjoyment, including plans for a 1950s-themed Thanksgiving and celebrations for Elvis's birthday.
