Filmmaker Eli Roth will release his new horror film, "Ice Cream Man," on August 7. This remake of the 1995 cult classic is the inaugural project from Roth's newly launched banner, The Horror Section, signaling his intent to revive gritty genre films. The movie will open on approximately 2,000 screens.
"Ice Cream Man" centers on a picturesque town disrupted by a seemingly benevolent ice cream vendor whose treats lead to horrifying outcomes. Ari Millen stars as the titular menace, supported by Benjamin Byron Davis, Karen Cliche, Dylan Hawco, and Sarah Abbott. Eli Roth also has an undisclosed role in the film he co-wrote with Noah Belson.
The original "Ice Cream Man" from 1995, starring Clint Howard, has gained a reputation over nearly 30 years for its unique blend of dark comedy and grotesque horror. Roth's remake is seen as a return to the sadistic style that defined his earlier work, akin to his recent success with "Thanksgiving."
