Ekko Astral Postpones Album Amid Label Drop, Legal Dispute
5 Mar
Summary
- Album release delayed due to internal band conflicts.
- Label dropped band over a dispute involving a former drummer.
- Band co-founded festival supporting trans liberation and mutual aid.

Washington, D.C. punk band Ekko Astral announced on March 4, 2026, that they are postponing the release of their second album, 'The Beltway Is Burning.' They have also withdrawn from the Liberation Weekend festival, which they co-founded to support trans liberation and mutual aid.
The band, comprised of Jael Holzman and Liam Hughes, will complete their March tour dates, including West Coast shows and an appearance at Idaho's Treefort Fest. However, all subsequent performances are postponed as the band needs 'time to recalibrate' before releasing their "pride and joy."
This postponement follows Ekko Astral's label, Topshelf Records, dropping them and stating they would not release 'The Beltway Is Burning.' The label's decision was reportedly due to a dispute between Holzman and former drummer Miri Tyler. Tyler had planned to leave the band in January due to touring's strain on her mental health.
Further complicating matters, Holzman filed a peace order against Tyler in February 2026, alleging social media threats. The order remains in effect until August 13, 2026. Tyler has denied the allegations, and a dispute over reporting on the situation led Ekko Astral to contest media coverage.
Liberation Weekend II is scheduled for April 24 to 26, 2026, featuring artists like Laura Jane Grace. Holzman and Hughes encourage attendance, emphasizing the festival's mission beyond the band's current circumstances and its vital support for trans rights and art.
