Eisenberg's Facebook Role Snub: Sorkin's Plea Unsuccessful
3 Oct
Summary
- Jesse Eisenberg declined a substantial offer to reprise his role.
- Actor wanted to avoid further conflation with Mark Zuckerberg.
- Sorkin unsuccessfully attempted to persuade Eisenberg to return.

Aaron Sorkin's follow-up to "The Social Network," titled "The Social Reckoning," is set to release this Friday. However, a key figure from the original film, Jesse Eisenberg, will not be reprising his Oscar-nominated role as Mark Zuckerberg. Sorkin confirmed that Sony Pictures made a substantial offer to Eisenberg.
Despite the financial incentive, Eisenberg declined. Sorkin noted that money is not a motivator for the actor, even suggesting it can be a disincentive. Sorkin himself also made direct appeals to Eisenberg, sending the script and outlining reasons for his return, but was unsuccessful.
Eisenberg's decision reportedly stems from a desire to no longer be associated with Mark Zuckerberg and personal issues with the tech mogul. Jeremy Strong will portray Zuckerberg in the new film.
