When pressed for details, Eisenberg remained evasive, joking about a recent jewel heist at the Louvre museum in Paris. However, he did acknowledge that he has "grown into something else" since playing the Zuckerberg character, suggesting a personal evolution that has led him to move on from the role.
Despite Eisenberg's absence, the sequel, titled The Social Reckoning, is still moving forward with Succession star Jeremy Strong taking over the lead role. Eisenberg expressed his continued friendship with the film's writer and director, Aaron Sorkin, and his belief that the sequel will be "really wonderful."
The decision to recast the iconic role of Mark Zuckerberg comes as Eisenberg has become increasingly outspoken against the Meta CEO, criticizing Zuckerberg's policies and their impact on public safety and fact-checking. Zuckerberg himself has also previously expressed dissatisfaction with the portrayal of his motivations in the original film.
