Downtown Fort Myers glittered on Saturday, February 21st, as the 88th annual Edison Festival of Light Grand Parade returned. The celebration, honoring Thomas Edison, commenced with a spectacular display of lights and entertainment along Cleveland Avenue and downtown streets.
This year's parade, a Fort Myers tradition since February 1938, included around 15 high-school marching bands and 60 floats. These dazzling displays were enhanced by emergency lights, glow sticks, and Christmas lights, creating a vibrant spectacle.
Notable highlights included the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Motorcycle Drill Team performing bike tricks. The Mexican dance group Bailes Folkloricos y Danzas de México presented elaborately costumed dancers. World-champion boxer Tiara Brown and retired football coach Sam Sirianni Jr. served as this year's honorary and grand marshals.
The Edison Festival of Light is a two-week celebration that encompasses various events, including concerts and car shows, in addition to parades. This grand parade stands as one of the biggest night parades in the Southeastern United States and the longest-running in Southwest Florida.
