Ed Sheeran Concert Security Beefed Up Amid Controversy
17 Sep
Summary
- Philly police providing enhanced security for Ed Sheeran's upcoming concert.
- Supporting acts withdrew in solidarity with Macklemore after his pro-Palestinian remarks.
- Metal detectors and pat-downs will be used for concertgoers' security.

Enhanced security measures are reportedly in place for Ed Sheeran's upcoming concert in Philadelphia. A significant detail of police officers will be present inside and outside Lincoln Financial Field, according to law enforcement sources.
This beefed-up security follows the departure of several supporting acts from Sheeran's Loop Tour. These musicians withdrew in solidarity with opening act Macklemore, who was removed from the tour after making pro-Palestinian remarks during a recent performance.
Attendees at the Saturday show will likely encounter metal detectors, and some may be subject to pat-downs. Philadelphia police are coordinating with Sheeran's team to implement all appropriate safety protocols.
Sheeran himself issued a statement explaining that Macklemore was pulled from the tour due to venue owners' unease over his onstage comments regarding the Middle East conflict. Macklemore had publicly expressed support for Palestinians during a New Jersey performance.
Musicians Aaron Rowe, Finneas O'Connell, Lukas Graham, and Beoga have publicly shown their support for Macklemore by withdrawing from the tour. Sheeran is scheduled for two more shows at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts next week, a venue operated by Robert Kraft, who reportedly was among the owners objecting to Macklemore's presence.
