Ed Sheeran Funds Irish Music Youth Initiative

The Ed Sheeran Foundation has formally expanded its operations to the island of Ireland, focusing on bolstering music education and opportunities for young people. The foundation's inaugural project in the region is North South Sounds 2026, which is uniting 50 young musicians, aged 13 to 17, from Belfast and Cork.

Musicians from the Oh Yeah Centre in Belfast and Music Generation in Cork are collaborating on this initiative. They are scheduled to perform at the Oh Yeah Centre and City Hall during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann on Monday. This expansion into Ireland holds personal significance for Sheeran, whose father hails from Belfast, and underscores his commitment to providing young artists with the support he received.

Sheeran expressed that Ireland is a 'special' place and emphasized the importance of ensuring 'every child should have the opportunity to learn and take part in music.' The project's first public showcase is set for Monday, August 3rd, at the Oh Yeah Centre. Participants like 15-year-old Avery highlighted the value of collaboration and new friendships forged through the program, while 14-year-old Manas stressed the vital role of encouragement for aspiring musicians.
