Dark Fantasy K-Drama Echoes Stranger Things' Charm

Netflix's new K-drama, The East Palace, emerges as a compelling dark fantasy, drawing striking parallels to the popular American series Stranger Things. The narrative centers on Gu-cheon, a ghost-killer with the unique ability to traverse between the human world and a parallel realm known as the Realm of Gwi. This spirit world, characterized by its dread and orange hues, functions similarly to the Upside Down in Stranger Things, populated by various dangerous spirits.

These spirits, collectively termed 'gwi-shin', are inspired by Korean folklore and are categorized by their intensity, ranging from harmless 'common-gwi' to malevolent 'ak-gwi'. Gu-cheon utilizes peach wood branches to combat these entities, often confronting them amidst palace intrigue and historical injustices that fuel the hauntings.
