A groundbreaking 1990s science fiction series, Earth-2, is currently unavailable for streaming, raising concerns about it becoming lost media. The show debuted on November 6, 1994, making its lead, Captain Devon Adair, the first female captain in sci-fi history, two months before Star Trek: Voyager's premiere.
Earth-2 followed wealthy philanthropist Devon Adair and a group of colonists journeying to the planet G889 to establish a new home for her ailing son. The series featured notable actors such as Clancy Brown and Tim Curry, with Curry particularly acclaimed for his villainous role.
Despite early promise and strong viewership, the series reportedly suffered from NBC airing episodes out of sequence, confusing audiences and leading to declining ratings. This scheduling issue, coupled with competition from other sci-fi programs, may have contributed to its cancellation after a single season. The series is now at risk of being forgotten, despite its significant contributions to the genre.
