Summary

- Divorce rocked Johnson, who struggled with depression at the time
- He sought out happier, family-friendly roles to cope with personal challenges

In November 2025, it has been 18 years since Dwayne Johnson's personal life underwent a significant change. Back in 2007, the actor's 16-year marriage to Dany Garcia came to an end, a development that deeply affected him.
At the time, Johnson struggled with the impact of the divorce, not just on his relationship but also on the dynamic of his family, particularly for his daughter Simone, who was 24 years old in 2025. "When you guys get married, as a few of you may know, you sign up for the long haul, but then it doesn't always work out like that," Johnson reflected during a podcast interview last year. The divorce "rocked" him, and he found himself grappling with a bout of depression.
To cope with the challenges in his personal life, Johnson began seeking out happier, family-oriented roles in films like The Game Plan and Tooth Fairy. "I was trying to figure my stuff out, and that was the only thing that I really wanted to do artistically," he explained. "I didn't want anything that was going to challenge me to rip my guts out, I wanted stuff that has a happy ending, and so that's what that was."
Johnson has since found stability in his personal life, marrying Lauren Hashian in 2019 and welcoming two more daughters, Jasmine and Tiana, now 9 and 6 years old respectively. But the journey to get there was not an easy one, as the actor had to navigate the emotional turmoil of his divorce and the impact it had on his family.
