Summary

- A new documentary will detail her rise to fame and trauma.
- The film features interviews with family and music industry peers.

Welsh singer Duffy, renowned for her hits "Mercy" and "Warwick Avenue," will detail her experiences of kidnapping and sexual assault in an upcoming feature-length documentary on Disney+. The film promises to be the first time the 41-year-old artist, whose real name is Aimee Anne Duffy, has publicly recounted the traumatic events.
The documentary will trace Duffy's journey from her childhood in Wales to her significant rise to fame in the late 2000s with her debut album "Rockferry." This period saw her achieve international success, including a UK number one hit with "Mercy" for five weeks in 2008.
Following her second album, "Endlessly," in 2010, Duffy stepped away from public life. It was nearly a decade later that she disclosed she had been drugged, sexually assaulted, and held captive. The documentary, nearly 15 years after the attack, will also feature insights from her family and music industry friends.
Director Gill Callan highlighted the tension between vulnerability and confidence in Duffy's narrative, while Sean Doyle, VP of unscripted at Disney+, expressed awe at Duffy's courage in sharing her story. The film aims to provide Duffy with a platform to tell her truth on her own terms.
