Gustavo Dudamel, alongside the Los Angeles Philharmonic, is organizing a benefit concert titled "A Concert for Venezuela." This event, scheduled for August 23 at the Hollywood Bowl, is dedicated to raising essential funds for Venezuelan communities impacted by destructive earthquakes. This concert carries added significance as it will be Dudamel's last performance as the Music & Artistic Director of the LA Phil.
The devastating twin earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitudes, struck Venezuela on June 24. These seismic events caused widespread destruction, leading to the collapse of numerous buildings and a tragic loss of life, with thousands reported dead and over 17,000 left homeless. Funds generated from "A Concert for Venezuela" will directly support Dudamel's Earthquake Recovery to Support Venezuelan Communities fund, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, and a fund from the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF).
Dudamel expressed his deep connection to his homeland, stating his thoughts are with the affected families. He emphasized the resilience of the Venezuelan people and invited global support to transform compassion into action for recovery and rebuilding efforts. The LA Phil's President and CEO, Kim Noltemy, affirmed the institution's commitment to humanitarian aid, pledging a $50,000 charitable donation to support relief efforts and stand with Dudamel.
