Floozie in Jacuzzi's New Dublin Home Revealed

The Dublin Festival of History, currently the world's largest free history festival with over 300 events, is exploring the capital's rich past.

One prominent story details the journey of the Anna Livia monument, infamously known as the 'Floozie in the Jacuzzi.' Erected in 1988 and removed from O'Connell Street in 2001 to make way for the Spire, it spent a decade in storage before finding a new home.

After ten years in storage, the Anna Livia statue was relocated to Croppies Memorial Park, where it now appears to levitate over a small pond. Art historian Aoife McCloughlin notes the statue's quiet presence, hidden in plain sight, and discusses the concept of public art's afterlife.

The festival also offers a rare glimpse into the past through Nellie Molloy's preserved flat, occupied by her family from 1915 to 2002. This time capsule showcases three generations of life in Dublin's Iveagh Trust buildings.

Ray Woods, former Estate Manager, describes the flat as a luxurious living space compared to crowded tenements, reflecting the historical evolution of housing in Dublin. The festival spans until October 11, featuring diverse topics from literary anniversaries to local social history.
